Visit Carmarthenshire: Lunar, Land and Lakes
Carmarthen boasts some of the finest nature Wales has to offer, all on Tŷ Mawr’s doorstep. Days out are plentiful in our sphere of paradise, with a range of activities only a short drive away. This blog will cover the epic world above with how to spend an unforgettable night here in South Wales.

One of the most unique experiences that Carmarthen can offer is that of an unspoilt night sky- free from man made pollution due to initiatives set in place by the International Dark Sky Association. In fact, Wales hosts over 30 Dark Sky Discovery Sites that associated astronomy organisations have coined as excellent stargazing areas, as well as three protected International Dark Sky places across the country. There is a Cambrian Astro-trail that hits many stellar stargazing spots within Wales including the Elan Valley Estate only an hour and a half drive away from Tŷ Mawr Hotel.
Until the end of July, the phenomena of Noctilucent clouds will be seen dancing after sunset along with the Summer Triangle also being found towards the southern sky. The Summer Triangle is formed of the stars Altair, Deneb and Vega which are the brightest stars in their constellations. This August, the night sky will also be scattered by the Perseids Meteor shower which will make for an excellent show and even better photos.

Our friends at Dark Sky Wales, with astronomers Allan Trow and Martin Griffiths, provide astronomical stargazing experiences offering the chance to try astrophotography. For more information and to book your out of this world experience, find the Dark Sky Wales website here. The next blog will cover interesting activities to do around Carmarthenshire on land and by foot- no longer looking up to the night sky!
