All Day Walk from Tŷ Mawr – Up to the Wind Farm and Back – 14 miles with 2,040 feet of Ascent / Descent.

This our longest walk we have mapped so far and not for the fainthearted. You will get to experience the Brechfa Forest and also the Brechfa Windfarm as you get chance to be close to the Wind Turbines and see just how big they really are. You could take the day and also a Tŷ Mawr Packed Lunch if you fancy one.

The Route

Take a left out of Tŷ Mawr’s car park towards the shop and take the first left signposted to New Inn. After 1.5 miles on this road going up you will reach the Keepers Forestry Car Park on your left.

With the Barn on your right start to walk along the forest track. You will go through 2 gates and walk for about 2 miles the track will wind down, around to the left and then wind up the mountain. You will eventually come to a crossroads in the track.

Turn right here and after 300 yards take the right fork (not the hard right turn). Follow the forestry track for about 2 hours which will take you around the wind farm, you will see small tracks leading up to some of the wind turbines.

You will eventually complete a loop and come back to the same crossroads. Take a right here down the hill you will walk between two houses. At a T Junction with the tarmac road turn right and then left at the next junction. Walk up the road and then down into Brechfa. You will come out on the right-hand side of the Forest Arms. Tŷ Mawr is then along the road on your left. We will be delighted to make you some Tea / Coffee or something stronger when you return.
