Stackpole
Stackpole is just over an hours drive from Tŷ Mawr Country Hotel. It is an easy drive mainly on large main roads. We highly recommend it for great walking with or without a dog, you can do short or long walks and explore some amazingly tranquil woods and beautiful lakes. We can do you a packed lunch to take or you could stop off at some lovely places on the way there or back. We will have a lovely meal ready for your return in the evening.
Below is a photo we took in December 2020, a perfect day! this is of one the lakes. The famous Bosherston Lakes were created 200 years ago to provide a backdrop to Stackpole Court. They have evolved into a wildlife habitat famous for its otters, water birds and dragonflies. The parkland here was established by the Cawdor family as a scenic backdrop to their grand home, Stackpole Court. Whilst the house might be long gone (it was demolished in 1963), there’s still plenty else to look at, all hinting at the area’s lavish past.

The 8 Arch Bridge
We parked at what seems like the main carpark, we used Google for directions, it’s just on the left after you have driven through Stackpole village. From here you can walk along the river. Follow the signs to the 8 Arch Bridge. The bridge is Grade II listed and great for photos!
Broad Haven Beach
Walk along from here on the right hand side of the lake. Eventually you will come to another bridge and see signs for Broad Haven / Coastal Path. If you go when there has been lots of rain you are best taking the higher path, this will avoid any flooding from the lake, we ended up climbing through the bushes and we would not recommend that for you 🙂 This walk is around an hour from the car park one way. Note you don’t pass any cafes there are toilets at the start however may not be open.
You will now walk through some more coastal type moor land and then reach the Broad Haven beach, this is truly magical. You may find pushchairs not possible at this point. Be aware the sea has strong currents.
