Outstanding
We really enjoyed our stays with them. They make sure you’re always happy. Their food is superb!! Totally recommended and will definitely keep on going to enjoy and be spoiled there. Thank you!!
Cosy and welcoming high quality establishment
Wonderful small, high quality, family run establishment in the village of Brechfa The friendly , relaxed owners are really hands on and have gone out of their way to make a stay here very memorable. The rooms are large and tastefully furnished while the downstairs lounge , bar and restaurant are cosy and welcoming . Tea and bara brith was offered on arrival infront of the woodburning stove and dinner was exceptional with local produce in the hands of the very skilled chef/owner. There is a comprehensive wine list with many wines being offered by the glass and carafe. Breakfast was of the same high standard and we were sorry to leave especially as the bakery would be open the next day!
Marvellous!!!
My mum stayed at Ty Mawr for two nights in October to celebrate her 99th birthday with family. Gill and David welcomed us all and looked after mum brilliantly. She had everything she needed and loved every moment. We ate two meals – dinner and Sunday lunch. Both were superb. Everyone was so relaxed and kind. Diolch o galon.
Superb Stay in Stunning Country Hotel
The fantastic welcome from Busta the dog and the friendly hotel team set the standard for our stay at this first rate country hotel. We had a spacious, comfortable room and enjoyed access to the garden and to a beautiful cosy guest lounge. The whole ambience was one of great service, tradition and history. Add to this the top quality food (great breakfast menu!) and you have the formula for a most enjoyable stay. We would highly recommend.
Highly recommended
Stayed three nights. Lovely room. Everything very clean. Owners very friendly and helpful. Food excellent. Nothing at all to fault. Well worth a stay
Another great stay at Ty Mawr
We were in need of a West Wales fix and some good Welsh food, so where else but Ty Mawr!
Superb food , very high quality and very well cooked. Great to see Ty Mawr setting such high standards.
We ” treated ourselves” to a meal at the Suffolk in Aldeburgh earlier this year, a restaurant with a lot of glowing reviews in both the Evening Standard and national media. My wife and I though are in agreement that the food, cooking and service are all better at Ty Mawr.
Many thanks to Gill, David and the team. See you next time.
A great overnight stay en route for Pembrokeshire
We knew we’d arrived at a hidden treasure when we arrived! Lovely hotel and garden with a very welcome cup of tea served on arrival! Excellent host and friendly dog!
Supper was delicious! Quite a surprise for us as we hadn’t expected such a wonderful home cooked supper. Thank you!
The bedroom and bathroom were spacious and very comfortable with good reading lights, linen and lovely soaps and creams etc.
We highly recommend for a night or a few days! We’ll be back.
Superb country hotel
We had such a comfortable stay with lovely food. Our hosts were so welcoming and showed us great kindness. We very much hope to return. Thank you David, Jill and all your staff.
Gem of a hotel in beautiful Wales
We had a wonderful stay in this fantastic country hotel ! The setting by the brook in lush green gardens is superb and inside everything is beautiful , stylish and comfortable- lovely bed and amenities. We had a great dinner cooked freshly after drinks on the terrace! We highly recommend Ty Mawr, and as return guests from over 40 years ago we were not disappointed!
A brilliant experience
I was looking for a small hotel in Wales where I could arrange a rendezvous with English friends and American cousins. We have travelled together many times but hadn’t seen each other in years, so we wanted a cosy place to get together. Our priority was good food, a comfortable, country hotel and an interesting location. We felt like we were treated like royalty. David recommended interesting places to visit and we were enchanted by the scenery. Nothing was too much trouble, and our hosts went out of their way to create a wonderful experience for us. Even though we occupied half the hotel, the dinner choices were fantastic, the food was wonderful and the wine choices were outstanding. The rooms were well-appointed and the beds very comfortable. I couldn’t recommend this little gem highly enough.
Another Lovely Stay
Another lovely stay at Ty Mawr, so quaint, food amazing, lovely staff, great walks closeby, just perfect. Will be back.
Lovely hotel and excellent food
We thoroughly enjoyed our break at Ty Mawr. The hotel is comfortable with lots of luxurious touches. The food was excellent and the welcome warm and genuine. We chose the hotel to visit the National Botanic Garden of Wales and Aberglasney gardens and it is well situated to visit both. We also enjoyed exploring the castles of the Towey valley. We would happily choose to stay at Ty Mawr again.
Relaxed, Informal and Spontaneous
Fantastic couple of nights @Ty Mawr spoilt rotten the food wine and ambience very special not forgetting Busta the Dog what a character will return as soon as
Fantastic in every way !
What a wonderful relaxing Christmas day spent at Ty Mawr, including a delicious meal. A friendly welcome as always by Gill, David & Busta.
Service was excellent served by David and an attentive & helpful waitress working Christmas day !
Our little dog Buddha was comfortable and it was lovely for him to spend the day with us during our meal. An absolute ‘gem’ of a Hotel we enjoyed so much we have booked for this year Christmas day meal. The Saturday Bakery is amazing, with a wonderful display each week of freshly baked items by Gill. Thank you both. Dawn & Mike.
A perfect Christmas getaway
We had been looking forward to our first Christmas break at Ty Mawr since last summer and were certainly not disappointed. From the moment we walked into reception to be greeted warmly by David (and Busta!), we knew were were going to enjoy a perfect Christmas. Hosts Gill and David are a superb partnership, with Gill working her magic in the kitchen so that every meal was perfectly presented and of outstanding quality. Christmas lunch will not be forgotten for a long time!! David and Gill are great supporters of local suppliers from whom they source much of their produce and even gins and beers! David, with his calm manner and sense of humour is in his element as front of house. This small Grade II period country hotel has a very warm, relaxed, informal atmosphere and was seasonally decked throughout, with a cosy log burner in the spacious, homely lounge. Nothing is too much for the hosts and we were very touched to receive a generous surprise parcel from Santa outside our room on Christmas morning. The ensuite bedrooms are very well appointed, with views over the garden and quiet village. The bed was one of the most comfortable we have slept in! We would highly recommend a stay at Ty Mawr any time of year, since the garden with a meandering stream would be stunning in spring and summer. There are plenty of opportunities to walk and visit nearby nationally renowned gardens and historical sites. With only six double rooms available we would recommend early booking to avoid disappointment! We will certainly return.
Another delightful stay at Ty Mawr
The quiet rural location is delightful as is the hotel garden, Brechfa village shop and the local pub are both within easy walking distance and an EV type 2 charger is available. Inside the centuries-old building the bedrooms have both character and comfort, as does the lounge, bar and dining room. The cooking is top quality in both variety and presentation. Finally, the delightful and caring hosts David and Gill, together with Busta the very friendly dog, make for a relaxing and enjoyable stay.
Another wonderful stay!
Another wonderful couple of days at the Ty Mawr!
Very comfortable accommodation, cosy lounges and dining room with real fires, delicious food and excellent service.
Thankyou David, Gill , staff and of course the beautiful Busta
Beautiful hotel ,fabulous staff
We stayed with Dave and Gill for two nights, we were made to feel completely at home, the food was fantastic,an amazing variety of local products championed to perfection. Our room was beautifully, very comfortable bed, spotlessly clean bathroom and plenty of hot water. A full range of tea’s and coffee’s and fresh milk in our room. Will definitely be staying again. An added bonus is Buster and his doggy visitor friends. They made perfect therapist’s.
A Welsh Delight
Tucked away in a quiet area of the Carmarthen countryside Ty Mawr welcomes its guests immediately on arrival with homemade bara brith and tea, a great start. Accommodation is beautifully presented with comfy beds and well stocked toiletries. The evening meal menu is small but is mostly locally sourced and caters for all tastes. Everything is beautifully cooked and presented with special attention made to suit guests requests. A real treat is the Ty Mawr bakery set up in house on Saturdays with locals competing with guests for a wonderful selection of pastries, savouries and breads. Overall a ‘must visit’ hotel for a relaxing and well catered break.
We intend to return.
A true gem with excellent food and attention to service.
Ty Mawr is a little gem tucked away in a quiet village but as soon as you arrive the warmth of the owners is very apparent. A comfortable retreat with top class food and a superbly comfortable bed. A superb dinner menu and an excellent breakfast.
Our favourite Welsh hotel
Any one wishing for a comfortable small hotel with superb food and a really lovely atmosphere need look no further.
We love to visit regularly and are never disappointed.
Delightful weekend in rural Wales
We booked a family weekend at Ty Mawr with our two grown up daughters and our young border collie who had never stayed away from home. David and Gill and their lovely staff are warm, welcoming and genuinely dog friendly. The hotel is a cosy retreat from the business of life: rustic Welsh charm in a 17th century building: a characterful sitting room, dining and breakfast area looking out onto a large garden. It is located in the lovely village of Brechfa which is nestled in idyllic ancient woodland and farmland. The local pub and village shop are conveniently close and very friendly.
Ground floor rooms are dog friendly and dogs are welcome around the hotel and the adorable Busta the Golden Retriever is a low key, gentle presence to join them.
The stand out feature of our stay was the superb food. Delicious produce all sourced locally from businesses whose details were fêted in the dining area. The breakfasts were delicious and the dinner menu outstanding. Presentation was superb and the home baked products particularly delightful and it was no surprise that the hotel serves as a very popular local bakery during the day on Saturdays.
The location is ideal for beach walks and exploring the forests, though a car is essential.
Relaxing break.
We had a very relaxing couple of days at Ty- Mawr with our dog ( who particularly liked the sausage she got at breakfast time)
Lovely location for walking, great hospitality and service from the team.
Fantastic food & wines in a great atmosphere.
Thanks so much for a very relaxing stay
We had a 5 night stay mid August. From when I rang to enquire about availability I was very reassured by David’s complete understanding of our preference for unprocessed food. Once we were there our conversations with Gill, the chef, confirmed that we were all on exactly the same page as regards ingredients and cooking methods. That’s such a relief when so many top establishments still routinely use products like hydrogenated oil. Virtually every dish we had was beautifully prepared and presented. Our room was very comfortable and it was great to have both a bath and separate shower. We always felt really welcome – it was almost like staying with friends!
Just Superb
Our second visit and it exceeded expectations even more than the first. A very friendly welcome, not least from Busta, a really nice and comfortable room, and superb food and drink. We enjoyed the local walk opposite the hotel, and it also made a terrific base for trips to Llanerchaeron and Strata Florida, and Talley Abbey and Dinefwr.
A Gem in Brechfa
My sister and I had a wonderful evening at Ty Mawr on 24th July to celebrate her birthday. The weather was horrible which was a shame as the setting is really beautiful and it would have been nice to have a pre-dinner G&T on the terrace. However the welcome was very warm, the service was great and the food was delicious. We loved the use of local produce including a selection of Welsh wines. In particular, the Welsh Black fillet from a farm three miles from Brechfa was sensational and perfectly cooked. I am so glad that we found this gem and we will certainly go again …and again.
Wonderful Country Hotel
If you want a relaxing stay with a comfy bed and great food this is the hotel for you. We had a good sized bedroom with full bathroom en suite. Lovely cotton linen and large snuggley bath towels. The soap, shower wash and shampoo shows the quality of the hotel. Great choice of breakfast and first-class dinner options.
Fantastic
Wife and I stayed last night, Wednesday 10th July..
Fantastic small country hotel … room was lovely, bed was to die for and owners David and Gill were a delight.
Had dinner in the restaurant, which was wonderful… local produce without all the frills, but so so good and all served by a lovely waitress who had a smile on her face all evening and nothing was too much trouble, more and more a rarity these days !
We will be back..
A gem in peaceful countryside
We have been staying with David and Gill every year since 2022. Together with Buster they make us feel at home in their lovely comfortable hotel. The food is especially good sourced from local suppliers.
Faultless
Had a wonderful relaxing weekend to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Hosts are very welcoming and friendly, as is Busta, their dog, nothing is too much trouble. Room comfy and spacious. Slept very well both nights. Evening menu changed daily and ingredients sourced locally. Comprehensive bar with nice seating area, plus a guest lounge with information about the attractions in the area. Many walks in nearby forest. Thoroughly Recommend
A lovely place to stay
My husband and I were hoping to have a relaxing stay in scenic surroundings with lovely food. Ty Mawr met all our hopes and more. We had a well equipped and comfortable room. The food was excellent with varied choice each day. The welcome and hospitality by David and Gill was perfect. Thank you for an enjoyable stay.
Thank you for a wonderful stay
I love this place. What to mention first? I can’t decide, so, in no particular order: Gill’s wonderful food, using local fresh ingredients to produce fabulous menus; David’s attention to his residents’ needs without being intrusive; the individuality and quality of the rooms; and the hotel’s location in the Welsh countryside. I will return.
Highly Recommended
We had a really nice break at Ty Mawr, such a cosy hotel, the food was outstanding thanks to Gill and her team, lovely hosts, well worth a visit to this area, miles of beautiful forestry walks. We will definitely be coming back. Thankyou.
A lovely, relaxing & happy stay .
We thoroughly enjoyed everything about T Mawr. Gill & David were very welcoming: Nothing was too much trouble & both the breakfasts & evening meals were super. David is the perfect host & Gill is an excellent cook! We shall definitely make a return visit.
Christmas present
Thank you so much for having us for a 2 night break in April. We had received a voucher for a 1 night stay, but decided to come for two nights. The location is great, although in the middle of the village (with a nice pub down the road) it is very quiet. The food was brilliant, the menu was small, but was completely different the second night- something that does not happen in many hotels. Our room -Gardd Fotaneg, was huge, and the bed so comfortable. The garden is south facing, where we enjoyed a complimentary tea on arrival. Diolch yn fawr iawn.
Will return
Just returned from a lovely couple of days at the Ty Mawr, accommodation and food excellent. We took our dog with us who loved sharing the lovely grounds with resident dog Busta.
Would recommend this hotel in the beautiful Welsh countryside, will be returning.
Perfect
Delightful two night break. Accommodation and cuisine suited us perfectly. Thoroughly recommend for a relaxing and welcoming stay. Congratulations David Gil and Buster .
Wonderful Stay
Our three night stay was truly relaxing. We were made to feel really welcome and all the staff were very attentive. Our little dog was very much at home. The meals were superb and a real treat and the evening menu changed each day, giving us a lovely choice. We would like to visit again.
Relaxing break
Just spent a few days at this hotel, weather not to good, but the hotel was very cosy, log fire blazing away, staff couldn’t do enough for us, food excellent, best steak I’ve ever had, bedding very comfortable. Highly recommended a few days at this hotel
Simply wonderful!
Quite wonderful. Ty Mawr is the perfect place for a luxurious short break. Set in a small village the idyllic Cothi valley, Ty Mawr offers first class accommodation and superb dining using local ingredients and cooked by Gill. Nothing seems to be too much trouble for the attentive hosts, David and Gill, whose warm and friendly welcome sets the tone for an excellent stay. Highly recommended.
Faultless
Everything went beyond expectations and I am a demanding and experienced hotel traveller! All of my pre-booking questions were answered accurately and promptly; warm greeting on arrival, excellent food/accommodation supported by the positive/helpful attitude of the staff.
Wonderful Christmas break
We had a really lovely 4 night christmas break with our 2 dogs Lola & Milo. We stayed in the annex, a very large room with excellent facilities, it was a boutique hotel experience and the hosts David & Gill made it extra special … we even had a lovely hamper from Santa which included bottles of our favourite drinks and luxury products. The food was excellent, all locally sourced produce, great menu choices, extremely well cooked and generous portions. The location is stunning, we drove to nearby beaches where the dogs could run for miles, Buster the dog is a wonderful ambassador for the hotel, very well behaved and always happy to see everyone. This really is a stunning part of the world and we can honestly say that this was one of the best hotels we have stayed in, we will definitely be coming back soon xx
Review
I have stayed at Ty Mawr three times now and my wife and I have enjoyed our visits immensely. On my last visit ending yesterday, the 26th August, I had brought two American friends with me, as I was giving them a tour around Wales.
They, like me, were very impressed with the overall standards of the hotel. Our rooms were very comfortable and the cuisine was quite outstanding. It goes without saying that this certainly will not be my last stay at this jewel of a place.
A Carmarthenshire Jewel
What a beautiful and welcoming hotel! Gill and David are wonderful hosts and the food…. was just sublime! The menu was varied and had something for all tastes. The added little touches of canapés and sorbet were delightful and totally moreish.
The room was cosy and quiet with a really comfortable bed! An essential for a good nights sleep. We especially liked the locally sourced toiletries in the bathroom, which also boasted a fantastic power shower.
We loved our first visit and know it will be the first of many!
Thank you both for a wonderful stay.
Lovely hotel
We stayed at this lovely hotel for a couple of nights in June and had a wonderful time.
A pretty room overlooking the peaceful garden with comfortable bed and quality linens.
Gill and David were excellent hosts and we had a delicious meal on the terrace for our anniversary -perfect!
Set in a pretty valley with plenty to see and do around-this place is a little gem which I would highly recommend -I didn’t want to leave!
Will definitely be going back again.
Thank you Gill and David for making our stay special.
Beautiful Stay
We really enjoyed our stay. Cozy place, delicious Food, very nice Staff. We really hope to come back.

Perfect Stay
Stayed at Ty Mawr for an overnight stop en route to our final destination. What a great find! Nice welcome, excellent room, superb evening meal and best of all our two dogs were made as welcome as we were. Our next visit would certainly warrant a longer stay. Highly recommended.
A stunning place!
Everything about this beautiful hotel is perfect, from your greeting on arrival, through to your room, food and gorgeous gardens. Staff were friendly and efficient and Buster the dog was the icing on the cake! We loved our stay and would wholeheartedly recommend visiting.
A perfect overnight stop
We had a perfect overnight stay in this very comfortable hotel. The accommodation is excellent and we were carefully attended to from the start. The day was topped off with a superb evening meal, and my wife remarked that this was probably the best hotel experience that she has had!
Delightful stay
We recently had a delightful two night stay at Ty Mawr. It’s such a pretty, cosy, hotel with a warm welcome from the owners, Gill and David, friendly, well – trained staff, delicious food – especially the Sunday lunch – and a very comfortable room with sofa, proper coffee AND a hot water bottle! We enjoyed walking in the Brechfa Forest and visiting the Carmarthen County Museum in the Bishop’s Palace at Abergwili. We’ll certainly recommend to friends and family.
What a little gem. Wonderful
What a fantastic little gem. Loved everything, the rooms were big and very comfortable. the owners could not do enough for us. Totally recommend this hotel
Perfect
My husband and I planned a combined visit to Aberglasney Gardens and the National Botanical Garden but needed a place to stay overnight. Friends recommend Ty Mawr as a very good place to stay as it was perfectly placed to visit both gardens.
It certainly was. Location was perfect – about 20 mins drive to Aberglasney and same for Botanical and Aberglasney Gardens. The hotel is full of character having lovely large en-suite rooms, a lovely reception/bar lounge area., a separate breakfast room and a lovely restaurant . The garden area was extremely well maintained . It had a terrace: and a very relaxing sitting area . The owners were very friendly and accommodating in every way, . Both breakfast and evening meal were both splendid with very good choices. An excellent stay. We have already recommended it to friends who I believe have already booked. Excellent!
Very, very nice hotel
We stayed for four nights in Ty Mawr Country Hotel. The room we stayed in was large and had everything we needed. The owners, Gill, David and their team were very friendly and helpful. Busta, their golden retriever, was a joy to have around. We enjoyed eating in the restaurant and sitting in the peaceful garden.
The history of the building is very interesting and worth asking about.
For us the hotel is definitely worth five stars and thoroughly recommend staying there.
Lovely Friendly Good Food
Stayed 3nights for our 54th wedding anniversary.will be back again
Great Location
Gill,David all the Staff and Busta were very friendly, polite and helpful, nothing was too much trouble for them. The Bedroom was warm, clean well appointed with tea making facilities. A nice log fire in the lounge where canapes served before evening meal. The Breakfast had a good choice ,the evening meal was well presented and plentiful. This was our first visit but hope fully not our last.
Wonderful break
We have just had four excellent nights at Ty Mawr
The hospitality shown by David & Gill and their team was excellent for the whole stay, starting with the much needed pot of tea and home made cake on arrival, not to mention the welcome received from Buster!!
The room was very comfortable and well appointed, and very much appreciated the little flask of fresh milk for morning tea.
Breakfast and dinner in the restaurant were excellent and very impressed that the dinner menu was changed daily.
The lounge with the log fire was the ideal place to relax before and after dinner.
We will definitely be back in the summer.
Philip & Suna
Jolly Snug
I and my family had an excellent stay here, just for one night, so far, in March 2023. We had three rooms, there were five of us.
We had supper soon after our arrival, and all were highly satisfied. We started off by trying a bottle of Albarino, which was a crisp accompaniment to our delicious starters. I and a son had the fillet steak, my first thought was ‘Hm, a bit mignon’, but it was quite the best tasting steak that I’ve ever had. I used to rave about the beef in Argentina, until I had a Carpaccio in Cartagena and the Palm passed to Colombia. Now it has gone to Wales.
We all had a most restful night, in sublimely comfortable beds, apparently assisted by topper mattresses, this was followed by a good artisan breakfast, more than adequate and tasty (with A1 Bacon), setting us up for a busy day. The surrounding countryside demands to be explored and we’ll certainly be back for a more extensive stay.
Fabulous food & great service
Lovely comfortable room with fabulous food & great service. Genuinely dog friendly our dog loved It there including their dog & didn’t want to leave. We will definitely go again.
Super break
Our second visit which will not be our last.So comfortable with friendly and efficient staff. The welcoming owners are always happy to ensure your stay is everything a short break should be.Very happy to return in the future.
Brilliant!
My partner and I came for a winter weekend break: fantastic food , Gill really can cook and David is a superb host.. We are both foodies and have lived in Wales for twenty five years and this is the best food we have eaten – really good home made local fare with excellent flourishes: not nouvelle cuisine but just scrumptious. We felt very looked after and hope To be back soon. Thank you both!
Perfect escape
Fantastic night spent at Ty Mawr
Welcoming owners
Well looked after hotel
Spotlessly clean hotel
Very comfy bed
Amazing food and service, evening meal was exceptional and very nice breakfast

Our seventh visit recently and second under the new owners – quality of service and attention remain high as before but we were impressed to find the food better then ever – hoping to return for eighth visit soon….!
A hidden secret
My wife and I haves stayed here on several occasions over the last 15 years. This was our first visit with the new owners Gill and David in charge. Our visit was a great success with Gill and David being great hosts. The rooms were excellent and the food was wholesome. This is a Great hotel in a fantastic location and is in secure hands for a bright future. I recommend you give it a try
Ty Mawr hotel
We had a lovely couple of days at Ty Mawr the hosts were really welcoming and friendly nothing was too much trouble. The hotel its self is absolutely lovely set in a quiet village. Our bedroom was clean and comfortable the log fire in the lounge made for a relaxing couple of evenings with a glass of wine
fabulous stay
i had a lovely stay for business. i would not hesitate to stay anywhere else in the Carmarthen area. very attentive but warm and friendly hosts with fantastic comfortable rooms and delicious food. To be able to work in the lounge in front of the log burner with a drink was lovely after a long drive and perfect preparation for the next day ahead
Excellent return stay with new owners David & Gill
Fabulous New Year celebration at this wonderful country hotel .
Great New owners who made sure we wanted for nothing .
The Food wine and service were excellent.
Great place to relax , beautiful walks , mountain and road biking .
Great Retreat
We stayed for one night as a pre Christmas treat to ourselves and can highly recommend this hotel. Right from the beginning with a warm welcome from David , a very comfortable room , great bed and bedding , an outstanding dinner and a tasty breakfast overlooking the garden. There was not a single fault to find during our stay , we loved it and we will be back .
A Great Experience
An extremely warm welcome on arrival. What followed can best be described as a wonderful weekend of excellent food and accommodation in a most relaxing environment. Located in the most beautiful countryside with lots of local information and advice. David and Gill made every effort for us to enjoy our stay. Would thoroughly recommend to anyone seeking an ‘away from it all’ break.
Lovely experience
Our two night break was from the 26th June to the morning of the 28th and turned out to be a lovely experience in every way. David and his partner Jill were most welcoming and hospitable from the moment we stepped through the door to the moment we left. Jill is a first rate chef who is most modest about her excellent and innovative dishes and refers to herself a ‘cook’.
Although not dog owners ourselves, we observed that our canine friends were made as welcome as their human counterparts!
To summarise, Ty Mawr is well worthy of its listing in the GH Guide, which my wife and I have relied upon for many years
Congratulations to the team Ty Mawr
A wonderful welcome for my husband and I and our dog Paddy. The food was superb, attention to detail amazing. David and Gill are fabulous hosts. We will be back!
Our Wedding

Just Fabulous
What can I say … we had a absolutely fabulous weekend at Ty Mawr celebrating a family birthday. Mel & Paul run a superb establishment and all of us want to return soon !
We were a party of 9 in total ( plus a dog) and all the rooms were excellent .We loved sitting and chatting in the beautiful garden and our evening meal was utterly delicious. We were looked after SO well by everyone , and we especially loved the laid back relaxed and friendly atmosphere at Ty Mawr .
THANK YOU .
25th Anniversary stay
Thank you Mel, Paul and the whole team for making our stay so fabulous. We booked a romantic getaway and the flowers in our room were stunning, the chocolates delicious and the Champagne just perfect! It was so lovely to enjoy a drink and canapés in the sunshine on the terrace before dinner. Dinner was delicious with clearly a lot of thought and love poured into the menu. If you stay, you must get up early and do the recommended hour long walk to get you ready for the super breakfast. Thanks again for your hospitality – we will be back one day!
A little haven
We stayed for 2 nights. Warm, friendly welcome. Quiet location and a comfortable and cosy place to get away from it all. All locally sourced food to enjoy, which we did. Plenty of places to visit nearby, castles aplenty, gardens, woodland walks and coastal options under an hour away. Recommended!
Such a peaceful spot
Stayed at Ty Mawr for a few days in April 2022, the weather was excellent, and Ty Mawr lived up to all the great reviews I’d read beforehand. It’s a tranquil spot in a beautiful Welsh valley, with walks from the doorstep and many attractions (including the coast) just a short drive away. My room was airy and spacious, and looked out over the large garden which was a perfect sunny place to enjoy the complimentary tea and cake! Food was excellent, including the superb breakfasts. Service was attentive and friendly throughout my stay. Couldn’t fault it!
Wonderful values, putting the guest first.
We loved everything about our meal here. Not only great values around how and where the food is sourced but a lovely generosity of spirit towards the guest. Portion sizes are plentiful and delicious and nothing is too much trouble for the staff. We’re very much looking forward to a return visit!
A WONDERFUL SURPRISE
We were recently treated by my son to a night at Tŷ Mawr – a complete surprise for my birthday – and what a wonderful surprise it was. I don’t know where to begin really so I will just say that everything and everyone was very special – our welcome, our room, the dining and breakfast experience, the surroundings and even our dog was made very welcome. Mel, Paul and the team are all so lovely and made our stay especially so. We can’t praise them highly enough and will certainly be returning……. Thank you ☺️ 🙏🏻
Our only disappointment is that we didn’t stay longer!
From the moment we stepped into the building, we felt totally relaxed. Mel, made us feel so welcome, the rooms were so cozy and comfortable too. Great cuppa and barabrith on the terrace overlooking the garden upon arrival too. Dinner and breakfast were excellent and the staff very attentive. We will definitely be back!
A lovely break!
We had a lovely 3 night break at Ty Mawr. We felt welcomed, well looked after and very well fed! Our bedroom was lovely and overlooked a pretty garden full of birds! We hope to return for another stay.
Sunday Night Break
We were fortunate that the Spring Weather had finally arrived . We were able to have coffee & cake when we arrived in the beautiful garden . We has a lovely meal in the dining room that evening. We were lucky to have a wonderful breakfast the next morning whilst looking at the bird feeders.
Overall a very relaxing experience.
Perfect – charming hotel and such a welcoming team
Thank you so much Paul and Mel for your hospitality, it was just what we needed for our weekend. Your team is great, and everything worked out perfectly. Hopefully we will see you again next year.
Loved it
Great stay. Great offer price. Great hosts and staff. Cosy. Comfy. Great location. Will definitely do again. Long may it remain!
Lovely night’s stay with friends
Lovely night’s stay with friends, to hide away from storm Eunis. Staff very friendly and welcoming. Thanks for the bara brith and coffee on arrival. Delicious evening meal and breakfast in beautiful surroundings. Will definitely visit again.
Really enjoyed our recent spell at Ty Mawr
We couldn’t have wished for better service in the comfortable surroundings that are Ty Mawr. The meals were excellent and we found the whole thing very relaxing. It is our intention to return some time in the new year.
Lovely Stay
Beautiful spot that is so quiet. Comfortable rooms, lovely hosts and very good food.
Another amazing stay
We’ve just returned home after an amazing 3 day stay with Mel, Paul and the Team at Ty MAWR.
We stayed for a few days last year and couldn’t wait to come back. The second time was even better than the first (if that is possible!!).
The hospitality & food is second to none, and all in a superb setting. The Team can’t do enough for you, and it all feels so relaxed, no pressure.
What a fantastic place, and we are already looking at dates for next year
Recent stay at the Ty Mawr Country Hotel Brechfa
This was the best ever 3 day break we have had
Paul and Mel were so wonderful in every way, they were very welcoming and attentive to your needs happy to chat and suggest different places to visit.
The food was excellent in every way ,breakfast, and the 5 course dinner was excellent
All the staff were absolutely wonderful.

Can’t fault it
Warm welcome, Good Food, Very friendly Proprietors and Staff, Quiet and Peaceful, Spotlessly clean, what else could you ask for – it was just what we look for in a hotel and have already booked to come again.
Beautiful stay
We had a lovely 2 nights at the Ty-mawr. The room was beautiful and so quiet. Dinner was delicious. Paul and Melissa were very welcoming. Definitely coming back!
Lovely evening & wonderful food
A great big ‘Diolch’ to Paul, Mel and their team for a fantastic meal last night. Oh, that cherry dessert was divine! Special thanks to Dáwnd who looked after us so attentively and with such natural charm. See you again, very soon.
Second wonderful stay
We returned to a genuine welcome, lovely food, comfortable bed and beautiful scenery. What more could we ask for? Thanks to Mel, Paul and team
Our stay
We stayed for two nights and enjoyed It very much. We would happily return.
Such a treat!
Set in an idyllic location Ty Mawr is a lovely getaway. The hosts are lovely and make you feel so welcome. The accommodations are gorgeous and the food is simply delicious. It’s our second visit and we’ll definitely be returning.
Ty Mawr Country Hotel
Ty Mawr Country hotel is a fabulous place to stay, situated in glorious countryside. The hotel is beautiful and still retains some of the original features. The staff were very attentive and very pleasant – nothing was too much trouble for them. We were made to feel very welcome. The food was excellent – some of the best meals we have had anywhere. We will definitely go back and also recommend it to others.
Perfect Ty Mawr
We are just back from 3 nights dinner, B & B at Ty Mawr. The hospitality, accommodation and food were all wonderful and the super welcome was extended to our little dog. Many thanks to Paul and Mel – you have it just right! – , to the lovely Gemma and charming Doward and Alfie – you all made our holiday complete, and very memorable. See you next year!
A Very Enjoyable Stay
We had a 2 night stay in Dryslwyn, a very comfortable room with plenty of space. Paul & Mel were the perfect hosts, so helpful and obliging. The breakfasts & dinner were delicious and to be able to sit in the peaceful garden over tea & Welsh cake on arrival was the perfect start to our stay. We only wished we had booked for a longer stay to be able to take advantage of the amazing walks on the doorstep. We look forward to a return visit.
A little slice of Heaven
What a wonderful weekend we had staying at Ty Mawr with the lovey Mel and Paul. The room was beautiful and clean, the dinner and breakfast cooked to perfection, served with a laugh and a smile by the friendly staff.
The sun was shining, so we were able to sit outside and observe lots of different birds feeding from the apple tree in the garden by the river, which was lovely. There are some amazing walks through the woods behind the hotel and loads to do and see within a short drive. (even with an electric car as they have a wall charger!)
Will be back again.
Peace and tranquility
A true amazing property set in beautiful grounds. The rooms were very spacious and decorated very tastefully. The food was delicious with generous potions along with Great breakfast enjoyed on the patio.Thankyou for a truly amazing stay and look forward to returing very soon.
Coming back…
I don’t know quite how to describe the feeling as we draw once again into the gravelled area next to the bridge, that lovely house of antiquity and the beautiful garden leading down to the river. Knowing that we will be welcome and cared for, and refreshed with tea and barabrith. Not quite warm enough to take it out onto the lovely patio, so enjoyed it in the sitting room. This room with it’s deep chairs, books and views is a room to sink into, a room we return again to for aperitifs, for after dinner drinks, to chat to the other friendly and interesting guests, Mel and Paul, and other staff. We booked 2 nights dinner bed and breakfast, knowing that we were going to be treated with meals of local, top quality ingredients expertly cooked, and we were not disappointed! The bedrooms are a delight and the wonderfully comfortable beds are everything we could wish for. And talking of things to wish for, I do wish we could come back much more often than we do..
A lovely place to relax
Although we only stayed for a single night, we loved it. Arriving mid afternoon we were greeted with tea and Bara Brith which we enjoyed in garden, whilst soaking up the sun. Kevin, our red setter thought it was the perfect place for a post-walk rest and Ty Mawr has to be one of the most dog-friendly places we’ve stayed. Dinner and breakfast were lovely – beautifully prepared and cooked local produce and friendly service.
A large comfortable bedroom with plenty of space for us and Kevin with peaceful surroundings was perfect.
Thoroughly recommend to visitors in the Brechfa area.
A great stopover
Sadly we only stayed one night. However it was sufficient to recognise the excellent values of Ty Mawr.
Every aspect was outstanding from Mel’s welcome to the meals and accommodation.
The hotel has style, atmosphere and comfort. We look forward to our next visit.
Home From Home!
Dear Mel, Paul & Ty Mawr Team,
We can’t thank you enough for making Nigel & Rose’s wedding perfect!
Ty Mawr was the perfect setting for a smaller wedding: attention detail, the helpful always smiling staff and Paul’s catering talents! I’m not a vegetarian/vegan, but could easily have been converted as the wedding buffet style lunch was an abundance of various delicious vegetarian platters, which Paul described to the wedding guests.
During our two night stay we enjoyed locally sourced produce for breakfast and two superb evening meals.
Any criticisms……Only that we had to leave too soon, would love to come back for longer and explore the beautiful landscape that surrounds Ty Mawr.
It was truly Home From Home with brilliant hosts!
Wonderfully Relaxing
Ty Mawr Hotel was a wonderfully relaxing destination for a short break. Our well-appointed room overlooked the garden which was home to several species of indigenous birds – a joy to listen to and observe both from our room and while having tea and bara brith on the terrace. Mel and Paul were welcoming and professional hosts supported by friendly and caring staff who were always ready to pass on local knowledge or help in any way they could. We appreciated the emphasis on locally sourced ingredients in the food served for both breakfast and dinner and felt that the hotel supported and complimented the community.
Best of Welsh hospitality
We had a brilliant one night stay in this intimate hotel in beautiful Brechfa. The setting is perfect and the welcome equalled that. We were met with coffee and cake on arrival , taken in our hosts lovely garden. After a walk in the pretty lanes surrounding the village, we got ready for dinner and what a treat that was!
Our room was luxurious and very comfortable. Breakfast the following morning was wonderful and featured the best of Welsh produce.
Our hosts could not have been more warm and welcoming and we will definitely return.
Fantastic welcome, wonderful hosts, delicious food
What a lovely place to eat. Firstly, such a warm and genuine welcome from Mel & Paul, secondly, wonderful locally-sourced food, served by lovely staff, and last but not least, the company of a pair of pheasants happily enjoying themselves on the lawn! Also, the respect for the Welsh language is much appreciated – diolch yn fawr. Keep doing what you’re doing – you’re doing it extremely well! Needless to say we will be back very soon.
Gill & Ken Jones
An absolute delight!
If your idea of a relaxing few days away is to be served delicious food in comfortable surroundings, relax in a beautifully furnished bedroom and sleep in a sublimely comfortable bed, than look no further! Ty Mawr is an absolute delight and is impressively run by owners Mel and Paul, assisted by Mrs Slocombe (the cat) and Philip (the pheasant). The garden is a bird lover’s delight and if you enjoy walking or cycling, then Brechfa Forest is literally on the doorstep. We will be back for some more nurturing very soon! Thank you.
Lovely place
We stopped off for a night in the middle of a camping holiday. Thought that Ty Mawr might be the sort of place to recharge our batteries.
It was.
It’s a lovely place. The rooms are fantastic. The food is delicious and the staff are delightful.. We’ll certainly be back
Tranquil and welcoming hotel
Stayed one night with our dog at this lovely hotel and was made very welcome. We stayed in Laugharne which was perfect to stay in with the dog, with easy access to the beautiful gardens. The food was superb both at dinner and breakfast, the quality of the local produce was outstanding. Will definitely return.
Another triumph
So the Xmas break 2020 didn’t happen until May 2021, and the champagne breakfast/turkey lunch was surreal but delightful. It was evidence of a thoroughly professional, yet individual approach from Paul, Mel and their friendly, adaptable staff. We and family enjoyed good food, local walks and a bar that never seemed to close. We found time to visit The National Wool Museum; we also heard an interesting and amusing talk about the Cambrian mountains Dark Skies initiative – another reason for visiting this charming hotel and beautiful area, which has a wealth of other leisure opportunities nearby. It is genuinely very dog- friendly, but I don’t know if the breakfast sausage was officially sanctioned by the management. I cannot imagine that if you visit, you will not return.
A real delight but don’t tell too many people…
We have just returned from a blissful two night stay at Ty Mawr.
The welcome from our time of booking to our arrival was warm, friendly and personal. Mel engages with you and almost instantly makes you feel at home. The hotel and the rooms were clean and comfortable – conforming to COVID guidelines making us feel very safe. The gardens, the birds, the almost tame hen pheasant made for a relaxing outside treat. Pauls cooking, menu choices, the wine list and service/attention to detail were exceptional. The whole team worked together to make us feel pampered and valued. It was a total joy. Thank you.
PS We’ve booked again for two nights in August for another battery recharge…
Lovely hotel
A most enjoyable stay with attentive service and excellent food and accommodation friendly and relaxing
Testimonial!
We had a very happy stay at Ty Mawr. Everything worked out so well. Lovely people, delightful and amusing staff, good food and an extremely comfortable room. What more can anyone want? Strongly recommend this hidden jewel in a lovely part of Wales.
Not sharing this place!!!
I can, hand on heart, say I have never stayed in such a warm, welcoming hotel. Wonderful welcoming owners, with equally charming staff, beautifully presented locally sourced food, there is nothing about our stay that wasn’t just great.
Tasteful and warm decor, beautiful gardens to sit and have your pre dinner drink. Lovely location and booked two further dates when we checked out. Exceptional place.
May Visit
We really enjoyed our stay at Ty Mawr. We were given a warm welcome. We had a comfortable room and wonderful food. We plan on a return visit later this year.
A lovely stay
We stayed for three nights in May on the way to and back from Pembrokeshire. The two rooms we had were spacious and the beds were wonderful. Mel and Paul were perfect hosts and their team were charming.
The food was freshly cooked and excellent value.
Fantastic birthday break
We stayed at Ty Mawr for a weekend break so that we could visit the Welsh National Botanical Gardens and also take the dogs walking in Brechfa Forest. We had a superb break, the hotel was lovely and our rooms were fabulous – the bed was so comfortable if it hadn’t been for canine nagging we’d have stayed there all morning! I’d like to thank Mel and Paul for the excellent hospitality and glorious food – it really was a cut above expected without being pretentious. A very enjoyable family break and we look forward to the next one.
Excellent Stay
Throughly enjoyed our one night stay at Ty Mawr, Paul and Mel are excellent hosts, we had dinner and breakfast and both meals were superb, our room was lovely.
We will definitely be going back to stay again.
Hidden gem
I love this hotel! It was our second visit and the food and room were again outstanding. Mel and Paul are thoughtful hosts who go out of their way to make you feel welcome (and safe). Will be booking again soon to unwind and relax in this tranquil haven.
FAB stay at Ty Mawr
Thanks again for superb Ty Mawr hospitality last weekend. The weather was great for walks along Afon Cothi and the surrounding hills too!
Return visit
Our third visit and heartily recommend. Such a warm welcome, superb local food and set deep in the country for walking, fishing and the rest.
A lovely spring break!
We spent a lovely short break at Ty Mawr, enjoying the surroundings and hospitality that the Hotel has to offer. The food was very good – locally sourced, nicely cooked & presented. Our room was large & comfortable and the hosts and staff very friendly and attentive. Nice location in a Carmarthenshire village – with wonderful countryside all around – forests, gardens, National Trust & not that far from the coast. Easy to get to & very restful too, if you so wish!
Ty Mawr Hotel
Second visit. Third and fourth visits already booked!
Service everything you could desire. Rooms are really junior suites. Food excellent; good wine list. Five stars for everything.
Sun or rain
Another escape from the city to enjoy a couple of days in the countryside. Trips to the local aberglasney, botanic gardens and a walk along the coast. Back to enjoy a fine bar, and high quality local, delicious food. We had a fine time, and are looking forward to returning, without covid restrictions.
Enjoyable stay.
We had an excellent overnight, mid week stay. The hotel / County house is comfortable and relaxing. Mel and Paul were extremely welcoming and the food, all produced locally was of a very high standard indeed. We were also blessed with some sunny, dry weather!
We look forward to returning. Highly recommended!
A lovely break
Booked for an overnight stay with dinner.
Building and roome were fabulous and an amazing garden to relax in.
Food was magnificent and Mel and paul could not have been more helpful.
An excellent experience
Excellent & relaxing stay
Stayed for one night at Ty Mawr with 5 course meal included.
Food was excellent, especially the beef, and breakfast was of great quality too. Paul and Mel are great owners who are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble.
Didn’t want to leave Ty Mawr and we would definitely recommend.
Paul and Tracey.
More than just a beautiful country house hotel!
Tŷ Mawr is blessed to be in the beautiful Cothi Valley surrounded by The Brechfa Forest but it takes more than it’s enviable location to make Tŷ Mawr a successful country house hotel. Even during these very trying times (2020-2021) Melissa & Paul can not have done more to make us feel more welcome and safe! With his culinary skills & her front of house charm they make the already historic and comfortable place somewhere you’ll want to return. Our room (Coedwig Brechfa) was spacious, comfortable and well appointed and perfect as a dog friendly room. We had eaten there a few times previously but this was our first over night stay and we’ll be going back! A big thank you to Mel & Paul for looking after us so attentively. Izzi & Ian
Lovely welcoming hotel
Our second two night stay and just as before had delightful time – so welcoming and friendly; a real tonic after all the lockdowns. Large room with very comfy bed (again) and enjoyed the food(again). We love the area as quiet and peaceful with easy access to walks and National Botanic Garden and will definitely be back (again)!
Excellent
Just a few lines to say that after staying in this hotel last night I would highly recommend to anyone looking for accommodation in this area to look no further.
The proprietors were very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. Lovely ,warm ,spacious and clean room with an excellent breakfast in the morning.
Five stars…..enough said.
A perfect stay
We received a wonderful warm welcome from our hosts Paul and Mel on arrival. Our room was perfect – spacious, clean and comfortable. Our meals were freshly prepared, tasty and always served with a smile. We loved the little village of Brechfa with it’s stunning views and friendly neighbours.
I would highly recommend the Tŷ Mawr hotel to anyone visiting the area, and hope to visit myself again soon.
The perfect getaway.
Paul and Mel were the perfect hosts and very welcoming.
My room was clean, spacious and had all the amenities you require. The location is perfect and adds to a very relaxing experience.
The locally sourced food was the icing on the cake.
Stay
An absolute pleasure to meet Mel and Paul at this gorgeous lovely hotel. Mel and Paul where so lovely and made my two night stay very comfortable , food and drink was also gorgeous couldn’t find a single thing wrong with this hotel. Will definitely be returning when back in the area
We love it here.
Stayed many times, it’s new custodians have continued the evolution keeping the core values of quality, local connection and comfort. A perfect escape, can’t wait to return.
Testimonial for Tý Mawr, Brechfa
Everything was gorgeous, hope to visit again sometime. Thank you 🙂
Ty Mawr, Brechfa
We have stopped at Ty Mawr many times over the last ten years; this was our first visit with Mel and Paul as our hosts and have to say that everything is as wonderful as it has been particularly during these difficult times. We were made to feel very welcome and both Mel and Paul chatted with us extensively throughout our two day stay. The food was excellent as was the company and the atmosphere. A wonderful hidden gem but so close to many in south wales. Looking forward to our next stay in March 2021.
Fabulous stay
Had a very enjoyable overnight stay last Friday. Beautiful room, beautiful food and beautiful people. Will definitely be back x
A little gem
We spent a night at the Tymawr Hotel last Tuesday, and were delighted with everything. We asked for a downstairs room and had a choice of 2 very spacious and attractive rooms, with baths as well as showers, which I much prefer. I saw other bedrooms in the older part of the house, and they were even more appealing and full of character.
So what about the food? Very good indeed. Not a vast menu, but interesting choices, well cooked and presented. The breakfast was as good. There was homemade soda bread, which I would kill for. And a bird feeder to watch from our breakfast table, plus an idiots guide to help identify the birds. A very thoughtful touch, and typical of the whole experience at the hotel.
The hosts, Mel and Paul were charming and attentive. They have been there only a short time and in very strange circumstances, thanks to Covid, but they have made their mark already. The dog was welcome, with no charge, and even had a sausage at breakfast.
Will we return? We have booked for Xmas, so draw your own conclusions.
A Perfect Stay
Mel and Paul were the perfect hosts. They could not have looked after us better. Warm, friendly service with a smile. The room was superb, clean and comfortable. I have no hesitation in highly recommending Ty Mawr as a place to stay.
Wow
Wonderful overnight stay. Hosts are excellent so friendly and helpful.
The room was lovely, comfortable bed big fluffy towels and soft warm dressing gowns and Netflix on the TV.
Dinner and breakfast was amazing.
I have an underlying heath issue so am careful where I go but felt safe and had a relaxing time. Can’t wait to stay again.
Luxurious get away
My husband and I chose to stay in Ty Mawr Guest farm house.
Set in a semi idyllic rural village surrounded outstanding beauty, fresh air, away from hassle and bustle
and therapeutic peace and quiet, it was a perfect romantic get away for us.
The hospitality from Mel and Paul was outstanding, the rooms were clean, fresh and full of character. The walls were thick and the features were kept the same when the house was first built. The guesthouse felt cosy inside with their glandular fireplaces and old fashioned furniture. The food served was fresh, delicious, locally produced or home made.
The guest house is geographically close to local attractions or neighbouring towns. Its is not far from the M4 near Crosshands. We definitely recommend Ty Mawr because it is a home business and Mel and Paul work hard and care about their guests ensuring their are contented. We definitely go back as we never leave disappointed from an homely welcoming from them both.
Weekend
What a wonderful hotel and perfect hosts in Paul & Mel. Our room was lovely and very clean, the bedding was sumptuous and nothing was too much trouble. Paul is a fantastic Chef, the canapes in the relaxing lounge were fab and the slow cooked Welsh black beef was to die for, the wine list is extensive and very well thought out. The breakfast was another treat especially the porridge with Penderyn whiskey and our doggie appreciated the sausage. The only bad thing I can think of is that we had to leave :(. Cannot wait to visit agan.
Fantastic stay
What a special place. So welcoming and homely and friendly. Delicious food. Wonderful walks nearby. We had such a great relaxing time with you. Thanks so much.
Relaxing break
We stayed at Ty Mawr Hotel last weekend and celebrated my 50th Birthday. The hotel has a country living atmosphere which I loved, we were thoroughly spoilt and had an amazing time. The food was outstanding as were the staff. Can’t wait to return. Thank you for giving me such special memories. Ann
A restful break in the country
Set in a quiet country village Ty Mawr is the perfect setting for a relaxing break. The owners are both very friendly and could not do enough to make our stay the delightful experience it was. The large lawned garden is alive with bird life, from a Great Spotted Woodpecker down to loads of Blue Tits and even a Bullfinch, which I found very relaxing watching their antics while feeding at the feeders attached to the hotel window.
The food was plentiful and the breakfast was my dream meal. There was a well stocked bar, and I suppose my only complaint would be that they did not stock draught beer, a necessity for a true Welshman.
There were a number of excellent walks through the local woodland, but due to failing health I could not try these out and had to rely on testimonies from other guests. The hotel is close to a number of major tourist attractions and towns which make a longer stay more attractive.
Would certainly recommend the Ty Mawr for a long or short break and will certainly go back again.
Weeekend get away
I don’t live far from Ty Mawr but its the perfect place to escape from home without a long drive. Really welcoming hosts, comfy lounge for gin and delicious canapes and lovely local food for dinner and a hearty breakfast. Combine all that with stunning walks ( I went Autumn time) in the Brechfa forest and build up an appetite for dinner 🙂 Have been twice and will go back…
A Great Autumn Stopover
We stayed for only one night in November but found the Ty Mawr Hotel and its people fantastic in every way. We’d have no hesitation in returning to enjoy top hospitality in the lovely surroundings of Brechfa Forest.
A relaxing and enjoyable stay
Mel and Paul gave us a warm (COVID-compliant) welcome including tea, coffee and bara brith. Our room, Laugharne, was spacious with a large comfortable bed. Dinner and breakfast, using local ingredients, were both delicious and service was friendly and relaxed. A stay at Ty Mawr is highly recommended and we hope to go back soon.
When in need….
Recently found this gem when in need of an all too short pre-lockdown break. A delightful, small hotel with loads of history and in a prime location for walking in the Brechfa Forest. Spacious, comfortable bedrooms with excellent facilities; skilfully cooked, delicious, locally-sourced food; a warm friendly atmosphere and wonderfully cheerful hosts – despite such difficult times. All great reasons to become a regular visitor.
Lovely, memorable stay with extended family
We really enjoyed our short break away in this small and very comfortable dog friendly hotel. Our hosts, Paul and Mel, were warm, friendly and incredibly helpful in pointing out the local sights so that we could make the most of our time in this beautiful part of Wales. They were most accommodating when it came to our complex and varied dietary requirements too.
Rooms were well equipped and the beds so very comfortable. Even though we stayed during the COVID pandemic, we felt safe and secure. The little touches of canapés and sorbets were most welcomed at dinner.
Thank you for looking after us so well and we wish you all the best for the future.
Relaxation and fun.
If you are searching for a family run Hotel that is comfortable, with good food and well run, look no further, Ty Mawr is spot on. Mel ands Paul run a tight ship that provides an excellent place from which to make either walking or driving excursions. The hotel itself is in ample, well tended grounds and the rooms extremely well appointed with lashings of hot water (The boiler would drive a Paddle Steamer!). The sitting rooms are comfortable and the bar extensive; service (Sophie & Ellie) very friendly and efficient. Paul is an accomplished chef with a compact and professional kitchen that he uses to show off his skills. There is no doubt in my mind that Ty Mawr is a jewel and I cannot recommend it highly enough. Thank you so much, this visit will be the first of many.
Great to be back
A first trip back to Ty Mawr under new management and the current trying circumstances. The hotel was just as welcoming as ever, and we thoroughly enjoyed the comfort and peacefulness – as well as the exceptional natural surroundings. Despite the constraints of Covid rules, the food and service was very good indeed, with an interesting wine list. At last I made it to Laugharne and the Dylan Thomas Birthday Walk – poetic landscape, even in the drizzle. Here’s hoping it will not be too long before we make it back to Brechfa.

Comfortable break
A charming and comfortable country house hotel with delicious food from their very local suppliers. Excellent advice on gardens to visit and walks to enjoy.
As Covid secure as they can make it but still with a personal warmth!
Charming stay in the Heart of Wales
Lovely house of character, splendid food and 2 charming, welcoming hosts who we wish well in these tough times.
Wonderful hospitality
Very hospitable and welcoming – the owners couldn’t do enough to make our stay comfortable and the food was excellent. Lovely that they value their local resources so much for their ingredients
Hospitable
I fully recommend this friendly hospitable establishment.
A place to relax
We thoroughly enjoyed our few days rest and relaxation at Ty Mawr. The hotel is situated in a beautiful spot
and is an ideal place to have a break from a busy routine. The food is excellent and locally sourced wherever possible .Mel and Paul are the perfect hosts and have plenty of ideas for walks and outings. Our room was large and well equipped with a comfortable bed . We can certainly recommend Ty Mawr if you want a quiet peaceful break.
What a find!
We have just spent 3 wonderful nights at Mel and Paul’s great hotel. The welcome was warm, the food was excellent and the bed very comfortable. What more could we ask for?
Mel and Paul are excellent hosts and nothing seems too much trouble. The other staff are charming and a pleasure to deal with. The little touches made all the difference ie afternoon tea on the patio (weather allowing), somewhere to dry the boots , and attention to detail regarding Covid safety.
We really felt that we have had a long holiday despite it being only 3 nights. We will come back and we will tell our friends, but not too many of them in case we cant get a room when we try to book!
Thank you
Weekend away
Had a lovely relaxing weekend with our dog. Lovely food and bedroom. Nothing was too much trouble
Perfect tranquility
We are so glad we found Ty Mawr. Stayed here whilst house hunting in the area and didn’t we find a gem. From the room to dinner and breakfast, everything was first class. This is definitely going on our regular return list.
What A Glorious Find
We had the most wonderful weekend away in Brechfa at this lovely family run hotel. With just 6 rooms it felt more like being at a relaxed family gathering than a hotel.
The rooms very comfy and luxurious – so much so that I find myself googling Sleigh beds and deep pile duvets!!
We wanted to explore the area and Mel and Paul gave us so much useful advice. The food was absolutely delicious. Healthy, home cooked and perfect portion sizes.
Will definitely be back. Thank you for having us.
Jane and Kevin-
Total Relaxation
Exceeded all expectations – room, food, location were all outstanding. Will return in the future when in need of a recharge!
Welcome in the hillside
Visiting Ty Mawr for almost 20 year we were glad to be back!!
Mel Paul & team doing a great job under difficult circumstances but welcome just as warm
Subtle changes but you can understand wanting to make their own mark
Wish them well with new enterprise

Delightful place to stay
We thoroughly enjoyed our all too brief stay at Ty Mawr. Melissa and Paul were most welcoming hosts, our room was cool and spacious on a very hot day, and the food was delicious. The use of top quality local suppliers and the efforts made to make everybody feel safe in the current climate, were both highly commendable. Melissa, Paul and their hospitable team make it a friendly and relaxed place to stay, and we hope to return soon.
A One Night Stay
First impressions …… Excellent .
Standard of room….. Very High.
Quality of Food…… Very Good.
Service…… exceptional .
Value for money…… No Problem at tall.
Return Visit…… We plan to book to return prior to Christmas.
Recommendation……. Without doubt.
Regrets…… Only we didn’t stay longer.
A remote Delight
After following the team on Facebook and knowing the owner we had to come and visit. Normally we would be on the wonderful Island of Barbados but due to the pandemic we sought options for a staycation. What better place to choose than Ty Mawr Country Hotel.
Set in the beautiful Welsh Valleys and this hotel was a great find not only the location large gardens but it is so quiet and peaceful. The owners Paul and Melissa are very welcoming and their staff tend to your every need.
We booked three nights Bed Breakfast and Evening meal – and we were not disappointed. The room was luxurious and the food top quality with a great selection of wines. There are also a range of cocktails to try as aperitifs and the sorbet course is to die for.
We would recommend this as a great base to travel around the south wales coastline all within 30 – 60 minutes away Tenby, St Davids or you can just get up and walk for miles
I can imagine a great venue for a special celebrations (it was our Wedding anniversary) or just to chill
We will be back
A hot day
It was 30c when we visited Ty Mawr!
We were welcomed with open arms, so to speak because of COVID regulations. Everything was spot on.
Afternoon tea, wonderful evening meal and a hearty breakfast in the morning.
The hotel was lovely, set in manicured gardens.
Well worth a visit
Great place to stay
We had three nights here recently,Paul and Mel made us very welcome
The food was good, the rooms are cosy and the beds very comfortable. Couldn’t fault the place. We’ll definitely visit again.
A very pleasant short stay
We will be returning! A special place with lovely people! Nothing to fault with excellent food, clean rooms and very pleasant and welcoming staff. A special mention was the unobtrusive efforts made to be fully compliant with current Covid – 19 guidelines without negative impact on the customer experience..
A very special place
The translation of Ty Mawr is “Big House” and a couple of centuries ago when Brechfa was developing into a village it would certainly be regarded as the “big” house. But today it is a small but oh so delightful country hotel set in the glorious Carmarthenshire country side. It is beautifully furnished. Melissa and Paul make a warm friendly and very efficient team. Try the food…. and you’ll be hooked.
A wonderful and memorable experience!
Ty Mawr is a true gem! The genuine warmth of the welcome, the quality and professionalism of the service provided by Melissa, Paul and their Team, the lovely food, the comfortable and tastefully decorated rooms, the incredible grounds and setting all combined to make our visit truly wonderful and memorable!
A fantastic stay towards the end of lockdown
Ty Mawr is a real gem of a place. The title translates as the “Big House” and I suppose centuries ago when Brechfa was developing it would have been seen as a large house but by todays standards it is run as a small country hotel – but a fantastic one at that. Set in the glorious Carmarthenshire country side on the edge of Brechfa Forest. The building itself is beautifully furnished and the owners Melissa and Paul make a warm friendly and efficient team. And the food…well just try it and you’ll be hooked.
Very Good
Warm and friendly welcome and a comfortable nights stay. Very well prepared for the current restrictions, will definitely stay with you again, many thanks.
Excellent Stay
“We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend”
Recharge break
“What an absolute gem of a place. Hosts and food were exceptional. Very relaxing and so rewarding after the Lockdown. We are going to go back soon. The scenery was also lovely. Good location for several places. Drank and ate way too much ????”
Perfect retreat!
“Haven of tranquility and warmth. Amazing food and attentive owners. No detail too much trouble. Sumptuously furnished, stunning surroundings and pure relaxation. We will certainly be back. This is a gem… Perfect for anyone looking for the highest standards in the most friendly and beautiful place. Perfect whether you wish to sit and read, watch the stunning wildlife, or go for a walk or trek. Situated within an hours drive of many beauty spots, so ideal of you wish to explore too. “
Perfect Place
“I greatly enjoyed my five day stay with hosts Melissa and Paul who were superb in every respect as was their beautiful establishment. The hotel is well positioned for the coastal resorts to the south, west and north as well as the beautiful countryside to the east, so there is always somewhere interesting to go to with ease; the village itself is in the lovely forested, stream-filled countryside of lush valleys and majestic hills. The building itself is full of history; idyllic with its west-facing lawn and terrace. The room was spacious, deeply comfortable and tranquil. The food, cooked by Paul himself, was excellent, so I treated myself to dinner as well – a treat indeed. Alastair Sawday got it just right in his review in ‘Sawday’s Special Places to Stay – Dog-friendly Breaks in Britain\’. The key word there being special. Ty Mawr is very special. Dan, my dog, loved every minute as well. “
Superb
“A wonderful stay from the warm welcome we received when we arrived to paying the very reasonable bill when we left. The room, dinner breakfast and drinks were all first class. The fillet really was a melt in the mouth experience. Many thanks to Paul and Mel. We will return soon. “
Fabulous service – very friendly and helpful, and felt very ‘Covid-secure’ in this time of ‘new normal’
Lovely location – very peaceful and remote but easily accessible; comfortable rooms with beautiful gardens; good menu choice. Great place to relax with places to visit and nice walks nearby.
Owners were very welcoming and helpful; cannot recommend highly enough and will definitely be staying again (thought about giving a bad review to make sure does not get fully booked up…..!! )
Happy visit
A kind welcome to us and our two dogs. A good large room suited us, particularly as its door opened to the garden area- easy for the dogs. We were fed very well and enjoyed the variety of dishes offered. Brechfa is accessible to some beautiful walking areas. We would happily recommend the hotel to others.
Little gem – warm, cosy, comfortable, dog friendly with great food and wine
I have stayed at this little hotel (6 bedrooms) at least once a year since 2007 – and have been in every season. It changed hands in December 2019 and I was keen to find out if the new owners were making wholesale changes or going to capitalise on the very sound footing they inherited. I am delighted to say they have chosen to do the latter. They have made some gentle and subtle modifications to furnishings – bringing more colour into the bar area, lounge and dining room – as well as to the menus for breakfast and dinner, and the wine list. Pre-dinner drinks, dinner itself and coffee afterwards have always been part of the great pleasure of being at Ty Mawr – and Melissa and Paul have been at pains to ensure that this remains the case. They themselves are also delightful, welcoming and genuinely warm hosts. Ty Mawr has for me always had a rather special ambience and on the basis of my most recent 4 night stay it looks set to continue. The surrounding area is lovely. There is a wide range of walks available from the front door, there are biking trails in the forest and if you have to use the car there are lots of interesting places to visit within a 25-mile radius. I highly recommend giving it a try if you are looking for a place to stay and refresh your batteries in south-west Wales.
50th Birthday Party – Murder Mystery Event
It’s hard to describe into words how special Mel & Paul and the staff made us all feel on my 50th Birthday Murder Mystery weekend. From start to finish it was perfection – amazing venue, food, drinks, Murder Mystery game, bedrooms etc…. It all complimented my amazing friends! Seriously cannot wait to return and if I ever win the lottery I will lodge there forever.
Murder Mystery Party
I have attended the Murder Mystery event and it was brilliant. Great food, service and new owners were very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended!
Great place, Wonderful Hosts
Our 2-night stay at Ty Mawr was perfect. The hotel itself is full of character and charm. Lovely big rooms with a cozy dinning room and lounge. The area itself is really pretty with lots of country walks nearby. Being only a short drive to Carmarthen and beautiful Llansteffan (keeping faith location) it is ideally placed to go sightseeing. Our hosts Paul and Melissa were perfect hosts and make you feel very welcome. Eating there was a real treat. Everything locally sourced and cooked with real passion. Wonderful stay and will definitely be back soon.
Perfect Stay
A great welcome from the Hosts, very dog friendly and very people friendly. This charming couple are there to please their guests and take on board everything that you say. The host Paul complimented by his wife give a top service and the Black Beef fillet steak was the best I have ever tasted. As an old hand at judging food for the Guild of Fine food please be assured that the food is of the highest standard. They are new to this Hotel which deserves to be successful and I will certainly stay there again. It’s a great location, quiet and beautiful with the most stunning walks for dogs within 5/10 mins away. Highly recommend, though I would like it to be a hidden gem. Annie from Somerset

70th Surprise Birthday Party
Well, I can’t recommend Tŷ Mawr Country Hotel highly enough! I originally saw the hotel on Welsh Rarebits late Summer last year when I thought it looked absolutely perfect for a gathering of a few family and friends to celebrate my hubby’s 70th birthday; traditional, small and exclusive with only 6 rooms and located in a beautiful part of West Wales, ideal.
This was to be a cosy sophisticated surprise celebration for my hubby, my idea being black tie, jazz music and casino. So, after contacting the hotel in early October last year, I was able to book the hotel exclusively for the big birthday weekend of 4/5th Jan this year.
This was followed by 3 months of secret communication with the hotel in organisation of this fabulous event and I have to say that Annabel and Steve, who were the owners at the time, were fabulous, so helpful and accommodating with all of my requests, nothing was too much trouble. They were also very happy to offer suggestions that might work well in making the surprise evening a success!
Then in mid-December Annabel and Steve told me that they had sold Tŷ Mawr to new owners Mel and Paul. Well as you can imagine I was a little worried as everything had been going so well and less than a month to go too!
However my concerns were entirely unfounded as the handover was seamless….new owners Mel and Paul were amazing, they threw themselves into the final arrangements with enthusiasm and I soon felt very comfortable again with how things were going.
So how did the 70th surprise weekend go….like a dream, far better than I had ever expected, it was fabulous! Mel and Paul were brilliant, they kept up the pretence (including the agreed decoy about a black-tie dress code!) like pro-actors from the minute we arrived on the Friday afternoon to the moment we arrived in the lounge on the Saturday evening to the big surprise “HAPPY BIRTHDAY” shout from family and friends.
The Saturday evening was perfect, cosy ambience provided by the hotel, amazing food cooked by Paul, classy music from Chris Kennedy jazz pianist vocalist and a fun casino put on by The Little Events Company. Hubby was suitably surprised being totally blown away by everything and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience!
Thank you Mel and Paul for being such excellent hosts and good sports. Also to Chris Kennedy and Wayne & Sarah of The Little Events Company for their very special contributions to a very special evening. What a team we made and thank you all again!
So in total agreement with all the lovely reviews below, we can honestly say that Tŷ Mawr Country Hotel is exceptional, whether for a relaxing break for two, a small get together of friends or an exclusive booking for a special celebration event, we highly recommend Mel and Paul’s place as know they (and the hotel) will meet all of your expectations…book now!
Hard place to leave
Absolutely amazing hosts – could not have been more friendly. Had a gorgeous room overlooking the garden and river – the only sound at night was the river and owls. Bed v comfy (and I am hard to please on that score). Everywhere spotless. Delicious breakfast. Thank you Paul and Mel!
Romantic anniversary stay
Our room was very comfortable & quiet. The food was amazing. We both thoroughly enjoyed. See you again soon. James &Tammy
Great hotel
Had a lovely break at Ty Mawr. Quiet location in a nice village. Good sized rooms with all the facilities you could need. Good choice at breakfast, all locally produced high-quality food. Dinners superb plenty of variety of dishes. Would recommend this hotel to all my friends and family.
Perfect
Booked for my mother and a friend, they absolutely loved it, very welcoming, good rooms, good food.As Arnie once said “I’ll be back”.
Fabulous hotel ***
A lovely location and a lovely hotel. Hosts are very welcoming, rooms spotless with amazing attention to detail. Evening meal was amazing with an excellent choice of food and drink. Perfect for couples. Breakfast was delicious. A definite place to revisit.
A Saturday overnight stay early October 2019
Annabel (owner) warmly welcomed us and after the checking-in procedure we were shown into our very spacious bedroom on the ground floor.Apart from the availability of tea &coffee makingfacilities, my wife was particularly pleased to see there was a hair-dryer and an associated mirror in just the right position! Our dinner was simply delicious which set us up well for a good night’s sleep. Sunday breakfast was really quite splendid too and in all we experienced a cosy short stay in a friendly &relaxing atmosphere!
A gem in the Welsh countryside
A beautiful spot, with expertly created cuisine, sourced locally, wonderfully presented, with a perfect restaurant ambience. A considered wine list as well as a well-stocked bar! Spacious, well-appointed bedrooms to relax in. We love it, and always look forward to planning for our next escape there, and my in-laws really enjoyed their first trip there too.
Lovely, comfortable hotel
Very comfortable room and excellent food. Loved the peace of the place. Great location for exploring this part of Wales.
George
Very comfortable room, excellent food and lovely hosts. Very impressed.
Lang may your lum reek
Great setting, food and comfort. What more could you want? As the Scots say “Long may your chimney smoke”.
Simply Superb
The accommodation was amazing, great quality bed sheets and towels, large room and bathroom. The food served at dinner and breakfast was just simply superb! would highly recommend and if we are ever in the area again, we will be back.
A lovely short break
We booked this as a last-minute getaway. From the outset, the owners were friendly and helpful. The hotel it’s self is charming and the rooms simply furnished but spacious, spotless and very comfortable. The evening meal was fantastic, the main difficulty being choosing what to have. The food which was locally sourced was cooked to perfection. Breakfast was top notch and the whole experience was extremely pleasant. We thought this was great value for money and will definitely come again.
Excellent
Cannot fault this hotel. The food is excellent, the room is large and comfortable and the hospitality was perfect. This is a very quiet hotel in the country away from any noisy traffic – perfect for us as we like peace and quiet. The free extras , for instance, tea and cake on arrival is an added bonus. Weather permitting you could sit in the immaculately tended garden and watch the woodpeckers making the most of the bird feeders.
Superb
Booked in for a 2 night stay with friends as we had some trips arranged in the local area. Everything from our freindly greeting on arrival, our beautiful rooms, and excellent food was perfect. This was a real gem of a find. Full compliments to the chef for interesting and tasty food. Our room was number 5 on the ground floor, large and airy, nicely decorated with nice extra touches, fluffy dressing gowns, hot water bottles! and a large bathroom with shower. We will definitely be back to stay, it is in a good location for visiting the local area.
Lovely pet friendly hotel
We had a lovely stay and a terrific dinner. We felt really welcomed (us and our dog). The room and facilities were first class. We look forward to staying here again in the future.
Excellent stay
This hotel is well run, comfortable and a “home from home”. The evening meal was very good with a decent selection, great quality ingredients and well priced. Very good wines by the glass to accompany the meal. Breakfast was also excellent with a good choice of local produce. If in the area, we would certainly stay here again.
Lovely time again at Ty Mawr
Our second visit – just as good as the first. Accommodation is very comfortable and the food is worth the journey. Annabelle and Steve and their staff give you a special experience in a lovely peaceful location.
Ty Mawr Country Hotel
We had an excellent stay at this lovely hotel in beautiful grounds. The owners took great care to ensure we had a really good experience and breakfast was probably the best we have ever had.
Delightful holiday
Our five-night stay at Ty Mawr was a delight. Our room was spacious, attractively furnished and comfortable. Meals (breakfast and dinner) were excellent with first-rate ingredients beautifully presented. There’s also a fine range of drinks including excellent Welsh Gins and Whisky. The location of the hotel in a quiet valley is most attractive and it is very conveniently located for visiting Aberglasney Gardens and the remarkable National Botanic Gardens of Wales, both about 20 minutes away. A little further away are Cae Hir gardens, Dylan Thomas’s house and the coastal resorts of Aberaeron and Tenby. A visit to St David’s is well worth the 90-minute drive.
little gem of a hotel
I have just spent one night here for B &B and dinner and enjoyed it very much. The hotel is in a lovely, characterful old building with a beautiful large garden where guests can sit with a drink or the complimentary cake and tea served on arrival. My room (double for single occupancy) was spacious and well-appointed with a comfy bed. The vegetarian options at dinner were excellent – I had a wild mushroom pate for starters with a squash and pea risotto to follow. We were also served canapes beforehand – as the weather was excellent these were served in the garden. Breakfast was equally good – a good choice of cereals and/or fresh fruit for self-service with a range of cooked options also available. All ingredients are sourced locally (there is ample information about suppliers). Service was attentive without being overbearing and all pre-visit correspondence from me had received a prompt response. I will definitely be returning and next time will spend more time exploring the lovely countryside.
hard to fault, and I don’t feel like trying…
We have just spent a night in this enchanting place – a visit that unfortunately, we had to cut short. the rooms are very comfortable and the public spaces most inviting. there is a beautiful garden, the food is excellent and the service as delightful as it is efficient. We had to leave early; they couldn’t have been more helpful. A smashing little hotel.
Holiday with dog
Lovely small hotel with lovely people in charge. Service was fantastic including help when my wife had to visit the hospital. The dinner menu changed daily and even after a whole weeks stay there was always something new. The food itself was excellent. The room we had was a good size with plenty of room for our small dog and her crate. We would thoroughly recommend this hotel.
A perfect break
Excellent stay. Spacious, comfortable room. Spotlessly clean. First-class food and nothing too much trouble. Being able to walk the forest trail from the doorstep was a bonus. We shall return.
Lovely time
Spotless, friendly, lovely food and beautiful countryside.
Excellent
Ty Mawr was fantastic. Amazingly good value for money, with large spotless and very comfortable rooms with great facilities. The food and wine were of a standard any restaurant would be proud of and the breakfast was also just as good. We are already looking for excuses to stay again!
Outstanding in every way
Ty Mawr is a lovely house in a beautiful spot, Atmosphere is relaxed but everything is run very efficiently in a low key way. Our room was spacious and had everything needed with nice touches. Lots of bar/dining/sitting space, all attractive and comfortable. Food was absolutely outstanding, fresh local ingredients beautifully cooked and presented. We will certainly be back and will recommend to others.
Lovely
A beautiful place to stay with excellent food and lovely touches everywhere. Recommended!
Haven of Peace
Lovely tranquil place. Spacious and comfortable bedroom, beautiful food in the restaurant and a warm, warm welcome from the owners. What’s not to like.
Short stay
Excellent – we would definitely stay here again. Beautiful location with excellent food and accommodation. Friendly and efficient service. Very clean, comfortable room.
the best
Superb the best I have stayed in UK
Marvelous place
We stayed here intending to have long walks through the forest and on the coast, but unfortunately, our dog injured his foot, so Our plans were significantly altered. We had to spend quite a lot of time (and money) at the vet in Camarthen.Nevertheless, we were very well looked after. The food was fabulous and everything we could have wished for was catered for by the hotel with good grace and cheerfulness.Highly recommended!
Ty Mawr Country Hotel
Such a find – amazing location, friendly hosts and wonderful food.
Thoroughly enjoyable
Have just stayed for a night in the superior king room – super place, great food, very enjoyable. Highly recommended.
A “just right” treat between Christmas and New Year
This isn’t my first review of Ty Mawr and I am sure it won’t be my last. It’s always a pleasure to pay Annabel and Steve a visit and these last couple of days ar no exception. What was exceptional was the fillet on Friday evening. The food is always outstanding here, but we both had the fillet steak with the oxtail. Just sublime. What made it even better was that the farmer who supplies Ty Mawr with the beef was in the dining room too and it was really interesting speaking with him and his wife before and after the meal. What a lovely couple – he is the seventh generation farmer on his property. All in all another great couple of days in this lovely part of the country.
Ty Mawr County Hotel!
Excellent place, can’t wait for another opportunity in Wales to stay at Ty Mawr County Hotel!
Week-end at Ty Mawr
Charming, comfortable and full of character, with great attention to detail. We were very well looked after and given great suggestions for walks and visits.
Wonderful overnight stay
Had a lovely one night stay, wish it was longer. The rooms were warm and comfortable and spotless. The evening meal was really good and the owners so friendly. We will be back!
An oasis of tranquillity
What a lovely hotel! Our room (on the ground floor) was perfect and made it easy to carry our luggage (and my land surveying equipment!) in from the car. Supper was outstanding, accompanied by a good robust Rioja. It was good to chat with other guests by the log fire in the sitting room afterwards. We both slept like logs and then enjoyed what was possibly the best-cooked breakfast I have ever had (and I spend a lot of my life staying in hotels). We journeyed on to our place of work a few miles away feeling refreshed, well-fed and relaxed.
Another great stay
Another superb stay with great hospitality, a wonderful room and fabulous food-Many thanks and see you again soon!
Happy anniversary
Fantastic stay. Delicious meals, wonderful room and brilliant trail riding. Many thanks and highest recommendations!
Practically Perfect in Every Way
As a business traveller who is often in need of hotel accommodation in Carmarthenshire, I’ve often found good hotels with decent food hard to find. I have been on more than one occasion disappointed, that was until now! Annabel and Steve at Ty Mawr were perfect hosts. This staff were delightful. They were hugely accommodating to both my vegetarian diet and any queries or requirements I had. The room I stayed in we delightful and offered a perfect night’s sleep. Evening meals, drinks and breakfast were fantastic. And what’s more, it’s all delivered in a beautiful building in beautiful surroundings. I will use it as my go-to hotel in this part of wales and can’t recommend it highly enough.
Recommended
Very comfortable and excellent food!
Birthday celebration
Would highly recommend, we were made very welcome room was lovely and bed very comfortable, the food was delicious, in all a delightful stay.
Amazing place, amazing food, amazing people
Very clean and modern bedrooms. Food was excellent too.
Review
Excellent all round – thank you!
Beautiful Place to Stay
My husband and I were travelling from Glasgow to Kidwelly in Wales to pick up our Bernese puppy. We looked for somewhere close by to stay. Ty Mawr was perfect. Lovely hosts, gorgeous room and delicious food for dinner and breakfast. Highly recommend. Dinner, Bed and Breakfast rate excellent value. The only thing that could have made it even more perfect would have been espresso coffee.
10th visit and still perfect.
Peaceful, welcoming and wonderfully comfortable. And fabulous food too. Just can’t stop going back.
Ty mawr country hotel
Fantastic hotel, working close by and staff did everything possible to make stay go smoothly. Had evening meal service and food was fantastic.
A great place to stay. We will stay again
I would strongly recommend staying at Ty Mawr and will stay again in the future when we are next in the area. A great small hotel / guest house. Annabel was a very efficient and attentive host. The evening food was very good and the breakfasts even better with a strong focus on local produce where possible. Tea and cake greeted us on arrival and each day when we returned in the late afternoon. Comfy lounge in which to take pre-meal drinks or post-meal tea/coffee. Small but lovely garden with outdoor seating for the better weather. I would have to try hard to find any fault but in the interests of constructive criticism our bed was very noisy (assume it was the springs) when turning over.
Charming hotel
We had a lovely stay at Ty Mawr. Annabel was a perfect host. The focus on local, quality products shines through everything, from the delicious meal to the ceramics and textiles decorating the hotel.
Good
We expected a high standard and we found it. Annabelle was courteous and efficient. Room brilliant. Quinine very good, especially the emphasis in locally produced goods
Lovely and peaceful
We had a very nice stay here recently – the hotel is peaceful and the food was excellent. Our room (number 4) was lovely and spacious with a nice sitting area. Will definitely come again!
What A Gem!!
After a five hour journey, there is nothing like a warm welcome, a large, clean comfortable bedroom, a hot shower and a sloe gin and bitter lemon served in a homely lounge. This was followed by a superb home-cooked meal that must be worthy of a Michelin Star (in my world anyway). Rolled pork served on a bed of Bramley Apple Sauce and seasonal vegetables followed by an indulgent homemade treacle sponge and homemade ice cream. After a sound nights sleep the breakfast was equally indulgent and the fresh food which had been sourced locally tasted superb and would set anybody up for the day to explore the Welsh Countryside.
Lovely hotel in a beautiful location
Lovely hotel and gardens in a beautiful location. Food excellent and a very warm welcome.
Flawless
Lovely house and garden. Spacious, well furnished and equipped. Excellent and imaginative food. Attentive and welcoming hosts.
Lovely Relaxing Stay
We loved staying at Ty Mawr, from the moment we entered Annabel made us feel welcome. Lovely touches in the bedroom, food superb and attentive to my dietary needs. A real gem in this part of wales.
An upmarket stay
We enjoyed everything about our 2-night stay in this attractively refurbished, characterful old stone house. Our room and bathroom were a good size and simply and comfortably furnished, as were the public rooms. We received a warm welcome and just the right amount of host input. Good breakfast with plenty of choice, although a change of fruit choice on the second morning would be good and my husband found the bacon too salty. Thanks for the recommendation of Kidwelly Castle. Really worth a visit.
fantastic
The hotel was super every little detail was just right but the food was out of this world if you stay you must eat in the hotel thanks again to Annabel and Steve for a fantastic few days will be back
Perfect
Having read many reviews beforehand we were expecting a high standard and we were not disappointed. The room was clean and spacious, the food was just what we like – fine dining without pretension. The hotel has character with a lovely garden in a quiet situation. The welcome and hospitality was spot on. What else could we ask for? We would definitely recommend this hotel and will be returning again.
Absolute gem
Superb! Fabulous location, lovely owners, great facilities and excellent food both dinner and breakfast. The food was nicer than some we have had in Michelin starred restaurants.
Excellent Stay
Fantastic food and excellent hosts.
Ty Mawr, Brechfa
Returned for our fourth visit, bringing our adult son, to experience the unique welcome and hospitality. Food as always exceptional and service flawless. Enjoyed waking in the morning to the sound and sight of the not so shy pheasant, the squirrels and woodpeckers. We will most definitely be staying again.
Beautiful , peaceful location
Stayed here one night on our way home. The hotel is clean and comfortable, with good food and drink. Our room was large and largely quiet. There are no casual drinkers or diners allowed .. so there wasn’t any noise once the last orders, I believe at 2030hrs was completed. Overall a pleasant stay.
Excellent in all respects
Excellent in all respects. A hospitable welcome, a comfortable room, superb food and a very relaxing atmosphere.
Our fourth visits to this beautiful place
Each time is as good as the last with the comfortable, well-appointed rooms, the excellent dinners and breakfasts. And Annabel the perfect host. One day we will meet the wizard in the kitchen so will have to return soon.
Lovely and Quiet
We only had one night here, but it was great. The room was spacious and comfortable, but the highlight of our stay was dinner. The lamb was tender and it was served with baby potatoes and green beans all of which was seasoned perfectly. The dessert was excellent as well. The owners were delightful and made the stay perfect.
Homely, welcoming and great cooking
After a long walk on the hills, it was perfect to arrive at the beautiful garden on Ty Mawr and be offered tea and cake! The hotel is really comfy, service is super friendly and efficient, while the cooking using local Welsh ingredients is delicious.
Made a good weekend great
First-class food and excellent hosts. We will be back!
Lovely location, lovely hotel
Just returned from a one night stay, bed, breakfast and evening meal. Rooms were brilliant, spacious and clean, food wonderful and service excellent. Warm welcome with coffees and cake on our arrival. Annabel was a perfect host. Gorgeous part of the world. If we are in the area again we will certainly be staying at Ty Mawr.
Ty Mawr
Beautiful accommodation. Food and service were excellent and I will most certainly be back. Thank you for a delightful stay.
3 Night stay
Thank you for providing us with a very comfortable environment for our stay. We found the hotel clean, warm and professionally run. The food was exceptional. The standard of the room is far better than other hotels with similar tariff’s. We both enjoyed our stay and we will have no hesitation in booking stays in the near and distant future
Marvellous stay
What a wonderful place! Everything relating to our short stay was simply superb. Starting with the welcome; tea & bara brith in the sitting room in front of a real fire. It was also just lovely to be able to bring our dog, Rufus, with us who loved his stay as much as we did! Beautiful food and hospitality! Diolch yn fawr!
Ty Mawr
Every thing about this hotel is top class. The food is excellent, the service excellent. Will be staying again.
Ty Mawr – Great place to stay
Lovely peaceful surroundings, great food and comfortable accommodation. Good value for money. Hosts very welcoming and friendly.
As good as ever
Our second visit to Ty Mawr. An enjoyable and relaxing start to a holiday trip around the west of Wales. The food and hospitality here are excellent with very comfortable and quiet bedrooms. Plenty of options for local walks too. Strongly recommended.
Excellent overnight stay
A comfortable, warm and welcoming stay en route to Ireland with a fabulous dinner to make the stay even more memorable.
Just the Best!
We have stayed at Ty Mawr twice and, both times, have enjoyed the most comfortable, friendly and top quality stay. The welcome is warm, the rooms are spotlessly clean and comfortable and the food is excellent. It’s difficult to choose from the dinner menu. Everything described sounds so good and you know it will all be freshly cooked local produce. The ‘extras’ provided – the canapes, sorbet palate cleanser and the coffee and petit fours – are a particularly nice touch. And I could spend as long describing the deliciousness of the breakfasts as I can eat one! The dinner, bed &breakfast rate is, in my opinion, exceedingly good value. So don’t prevaricate and compare other establishments – book a stay at Ty Mawr. I don’t think you will be disappointed.
Perfect hotel in every respect
From the moment we entered this venerable and immaculately restored and maintained old building we felt enveloped in a warm welcome. Complimentary tea and cake on the sunny terrace confirmed our first impression. This is truly a special place. The room, with its view of the garden, had everything we could ever need, most importantly, of course, a supremely comfortable bed. The ambience throughout was one of the sanctuary, surrounded by old stone and wood but enlivened by artistic and homely touches everywhere we looked. Dinner in the restaurant was substantial and sublime, all locally sourced produce and cooked to perfection. Not forgetting the human touch, Annabel was the perfect hostess, friendly, helpful and somehow always there at exactly the right moment. We shall definitely return.
Beautiful setting for this lovely hotel.
First impressions certainly did not let us down. Very comfortable stay with excellent food, both breakfast and evening meal.
Charming setting;perfect hosts working hard to offer every home comfort
After a long bank holiday drive, we were welcomed by the owner of this quaint hotel. We ate beautiful, locally sourced and fresh food both days cooked to perfection at the hotel. The room was comfortable, peaceful with all mod cons with only the sound of water flowing in the stream at the bottom of the pretty garden where we enjoyed drinks on the terrace. I loved the attention to detail and promotion of local businesses both For the food served in the restaurant and local artists e.g. Paintings and pottery. We would thoroughly recommend this sweet little hotel to friends and family alike.
Perfect country hotel
This was my second time of staying at Ty Mawr and once again it was absolutely perfect! The hosts could not be more accommodating, the rooms are spotlessly clean and very very comfortable and the food is outstanding, certainly one of the nicest meals I’ve eaten in a very long time. I would highly recommend Ty Mawr to anyone wanting to spend time in beautiful Carmarthenshire.
Excellent
Fantastic little hotel, amazing food, great service, outstanding value.
Fantastic Hotel
Ty Mawr is a Fantastic Hotel run by Annabelle & Steve. My wife and I recently stayed for three nights and found no negative points at all about this spacious quiet retreat. The rooms were clean, large and very well furnished. The food is top class with a varied and comprehensive menu and well presented. We were very well looked after and nothing seemed too much trouble to ensure our stay was enjoyable. We are both of the opinion that this must be one of the best Hotels in Carmarthen and will not hesitate to recommend this lovely place to our friends if visiting the area.
weekend break
Excellent room, fantastic food and warm welcome. Hotel in a beautiful location. Will return.
Excellent stay
It was lovely to return once again to Ty Mawr. Beautiful large rooms with really nice attention to detail. The wonderful food, really good wine list. Breakfast gives a really good start to your day. Nice patio area to sit out with dogs on our return of an evening over a nice glass of wine. Dogs very impressed with their holiday and no extra to pay either. Many thanks to Annabelle and Steve for a wonderful long weekend.
treat yourself
lovely room. very comfortable bed. gorgeous food
Hotel
Excellent food and great value for money.
Fabulous place
Truly fabulous place to stay at a wonderful house (immaculately furnished and decorated), great service, great food. Just the right balance of relaxed country house feel with quietly efficient operation running in the background. Welcoming, friendly, not stuffy. We’ll be back.
As good as ever
As usual a very pleasant stay, comfortable accommodation and excellent food. This was our thirteenth or fourteenth stay I think that says it all.
Dog Friendly
Wonderful stay in this gorgeous dog-friendly hotel. We stayed in room 6 which is superior king size so much room. The hotel staff are extremely friendly and the food is amazing. The chef should be congratulated. The extensive wine list. Would definitely stay again. I would add your dog would need to be very well behaved and not mind staying in the room while you eat. Great walks nearby. 5-star rating.
Superb
Our room was lovely, bed very comfortable. Food was superb. The view from our room into the garden was exceptional, saw birds I haven’t seen before.
I had such a lovely, relaxing time
I have recently returned from a 2-night stay at Ty Mawr Country hotel with my 2 labradors. I loved every second. The food and service are outstanding, the room and hotel very clean. Cannot fault my stay.So good I am definitely returning!!!
Little gem
Annabelle and Steve were fantastic hosts. The food was at a high standard that was paired with a decent wine list. The hotel is dog friendly and has a great outdoor space for them to run around while you sip Gin and tonics in the sun. Thank you both for a lovely stay. Mark & Amy
Wonderful Stay
Excellent food, very relaxing and highly recommend stay.
Wonderful
Very friendly hotel, the food was lovely, everyone made us feel very welcome. Would stay there again if in the area.
Great break
Fantastic food, very clean and friendly staff.
Convenient for Carmarthen
Very comfortable and good food.
History, location, food, comfort, service
This lovely country house hotel (but set in the middle of a quiet village, with shop and pub) has it all. Such an interesting history. The location is fantastic – right in the middle of Brechfa Forest and surrounding valleys, but close to main roads, Carmarthen, Llandeilo etc. The food was amazing – would love to be able to eat here as a non-resident. Very comfortable room – and we are fussy about our bed! The level of service was perfect. We are fairly local and this was one night to celebrate a 50th birthday, but would definitely love to stay again (for the food!) and would recommend it to anyone.
Magic, restful break
We spent 4 nights at Ty Mawr. Our stay was wonderfully relaxing. The accommodation and friendly welcome was lovely. However, the icing on the cake was the quality of the food. We will certainly return. The area is very pretty and with little traffic was very relaxing.
Welsh Adventure
A gem as a find – no faults and all the benefits of a Boutique homely hotel. Super service and rooms and the breakfast and dinners superb. Annabelle a delightful hostess and our dog welcomed 🙂
Guaranteed excellence every time
Once discovered, you’ll return time and again. Lovely rooms, super comfortable beds, gorgeous setting. The food is just brilliant. Annabel is an amazing host, helpful, attentive and genuine.
My only regret is that I couldn’t stay longer!
The staff at the hotel are very friendly and welcoming, nothing was too much trouble. They encourage guests to use the lounge which has large, comfy armchairs and sofas and a wood-burning stove. I chose to eat at the hotel and it was a great decision – the price included canapes, sorbet, coffee and petit fours (£25 for 2 courses, £30 for 3 courses). I needed to check-out early as I was attending a business event and they opened the dining room at 7.30am to suit my schedule.
Ty Mawr
Lovely place, in a beautiful part of Carmarthenshire not well known to us. We stayed on a Sunday night. As far as I can tell we were the only guests. The room was spacious, well equipped, huge bed, lovely bath. Food was excellent, good wine menu. Breakfast lovely, good choice. Welcome warm but not suffocating. The place is well positioned for walks, cycling and trips to nearby Wrights food emporium, Llandeilo, National Botanical Gardens. We’d both heartily recommend Ty Mawr.
